Battery CagesBattery cages are used to farm chickens for eggs. They are small wire cages that are designed to let eggs roll into a communal area. This causes a much easier collection of the eggs. The wire in the cages, however, dig into the chickens' feet. This often causes permanent scarring and makes it hurt for the chickens to walk. Another large con of these cages is that in order for the chickens to get to the food, they have to stick their heads through the wire bars, causing their feathers to fall off. It also causes the mutilations of their necks, having permanent damage and making it hurt to eat and breathe. The cramped conditions also make it hard for them to move, and when they do, it inflames their wounds by rubbing against others. This is a huge problem within the meat industry, but if you become vegan, we are one step closer to stopping this abuse.

Gestation CratesGestation crates are used on pigs that are 'used' to make more pigs. A pregnant pig is forced into this small cage for the entirety of their 4-month pregnancy. They not only suffer physical torture, but also mental torture. The cage is so small that all she can do is sit there, not being able to turn around or socialize like she naturally wants to do. Right after their piglets are birthed, they are soon re-impregnated, to repeat the whole process. This goes on until the pig reaches an age between 1 ½ - 2 years old. At this age she can no longer give birth to piglets, and she is sent of too the slaughterhouse.

Cruel TransportationAnimals usually undergo cruel and harmful transportation. When the animals get put into the trucks for their long journey, they are usually malnourished or dehydrated. They endure long hours in dark, cold, and cramped conditions. Some of the animals die in the process of transportation. Others arrive starved or on the brink of death. The rest of them arrive with permanent trauma. But in the cruel eyes of the butchers, they are all the same. All just some meat on bones. After they get shuffled out of the truck, they get taken to the slaughterhouse, where their miserable lives come to an end.

Dairy CrueltyDairy cows are usually trapped in small fields, not letting them roam free and thrive like they are supposed to. They usually aren't fed enough food, because it takes 25 kilograms of grain and 15,000 liters of water. Selective breeding is also a huge problem. Farmers will specifically breed cows that can produce more milk and produce it faster. This causes damage to the udder, making it hurt to lie down and rest. The psychological torture is also an issue. After a cow gives birth, its baby is taken immediately after the birth, breaking the sacred mother-offspring relationship. They are also re-impregnated soon after and have to live through it all again.
